Respecting Feminine Space

Due to the nature of the exhibit including shared experiences, we ask that artists respect the space we are creating and recognize that this is a space for art about ALL women.

Medium Types

All medium types are accepted; however, artists are responsible for the transportation of their piece. Various display methods will be available and discussed upon acceptance.

"I don't paint my dreams or nightmares, I paint my own reality." -Frida Kahlo

This year, Breaking Barriers will have an art exhibit dedicated to art by ANY artist of ANY age and ANY skill level. Humans have spoken through art for centuries, from recording history to self-expression. The intensity of art is that it empowers both the maker and the observer. No matter what media is used, the artist speaks their truth through movements, patterns, colors, and design choices. The observer is then left to receive the artist's message and interpret it in a unique way. This relationship is uniquely found in the sphere of art and can create a connection between two people who may never meet. To cultivate this relationship, our goal is to create a space allowing artists and conference attendees to connect with each other via shared experiences, hardships, and stories.

"For most of history, Anonymous was a woman."
-Virginia Woolf

Every year, the Breaking Barriers team attempts to highlight an area where women are often under-valued or under recognized. Last year, there was a health event called Healthcare is Self-Care: From Body to Brain, which allowed women the opportunity to connect with various health professionals who were fully focused on spreading information about all dimensions of women's health. This year, we have decided to create a space for any artist to submit their work honoring women to be displayed at the 2024 Breaking Barriers: Women in Leadership Conference. For more information, read above.
